Arriva Traincare is proud to play a key role in the ongoing fleet refresh of Great Western Railway’s (GWR) Night Riviera Sleeper service, a prestigious overnight rail route connecting London Paddington to Penzance.
Delivered from our Eastleigh depot, this project showcases our expertise in rolling stock repainting and highlights the strength of our rail industry partnerships. Since September 2024, our skilled team, working in collaboration with painting specialists Specialist Compliant Coatings, has successfully repainted 20 Mk3 coaches and one Class 57 locomotive.
Each coach undergoes a meticulous two-week repaint cycle, which includes:
- Surface preparation
- Corrosion treatment
- Painting in our dedicated paint facility
- Application of decals to ensure a consistent and high-quality finish across the fleet
A standout moment in the programme was the repainting of locomotive 57604, which received a special lined GWR livery featuring brass detailing. This locomotive was proudly showcased at the Railway 200 “Greatest Gathering” celebration in Derby during the summer of 2025.
The refresh programme is set to continue into 2026, with more locomotives scheduled for repainting as part of GWR’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its sleeper fleet.
